As the top 10 dynasty continues to grow, as well as our playerbase (39,699 tracked players) I'm noticing that 50 points lost when killing the mega guys just isn't cutting it.

I'm considering boosting it up to 250.

I know this will anger some people, but I think it's for the best.

Thoughts?

this will encourage camping for those who want high scores.  i think people who have a lot of points and want the keep them will hate it.  But newbs to the server will like it because they can rack up 10,000 points in their first night.

My 2 cents:  I personally hate it when I get on a roll and get several kills that add up to maybe 10 points only to be killed and lose 50 points.  Have that happened a couple of times and it pretty much ruins my night.   I had a discussion the other night with someone that said if I had 60k+ points shouldn't I be able to keep from getting killed by by someone with less than 10k points.  Take it from me I have 60k+ points because I play these servers a lot.  Points don't necessarily translate into skill, but to loyalty to the servers.  Isn't that the goal?  Losing 250 points a few times a night will be disheartening to say the least.  Is there any way to gain 250 by killing a mega player but the one being killed does not lose that many?

My Suggestion: Make it 250 but make it like 100 when top players kill each other.

Man I'll just go through the game hunting a special engineer ;) and ignoring everyone else...
I think that would be hilarious LOL.

It is pretty sad when you pay attention to the points for a few minutes and realize 1 guy just took away 50 kills worth of points. If I cared about points this would eventually drive me crazy and piss me off. Making it 500 points would probably make it even worse. That said, I won't have any problem if this happens. It will make it way harder to hold on to the top spots so eventually people in the top will get used to it. A less controversial solution would probably be the whole "Creature" thing where there is a bounty on someone so you get a lot of points for killing them but they don't lose any. If you could make the top 10 players have bounties on them it would really balance things out without driving the top players crazy.

To those that care about the points, 50 points is already bad enough.  To those that do not care about points, well, who cares?

What about a point wipe every quarter?  Every 3 months, everybody goes to 0 points and see who can top it out again?

Razor's point is valid, points are not an indicator of skill, per say, but a function of time.  I flew up the ranks over Christmas as I had a week off from work.  After that, I have just maintained my current relative position.

I agree with Razor, losing 50 sucks bad enough when you have to  basically kill 50 people to get that 50 points back or well cap a point, it is disheartening as it is,  i dont see myself playing anymore if it was worse, i know i dont have alot of point becuz of skill, only cuz i play alot so id go backwards very fast. I got mine by playing alot, so should everyone else if they want the points.

I know I'm new round here, but I'll throw my 2 cents in...

There are things that could be done to touch up the points system.

1)  Engi's points should be reduced or eliminated for building sentries, dispensers, teles.
2)  Each kill should be a minimum of more than 5 points since a kill assist is a default 5 points.
or
2a) Reduce the points for a kill assist

3) You could keep the 5 for the KA but make every kill, no matter who it is, 10 pts.

Those are my suggestions.

how about increase the number of points you get for killing somebody to 250 max like you said
THEN, reduce the number of points lost by 90%.

So a newb would get 250 points for killing the top player, but then the top player would only lose 25.  How about something like that.  That way you can accumulate lots of points quickly, but you won't get raped for points if you have more then 30,000.  This will allow the loyal players to the server to continue enjoying their mega points it took them so long to accumulate, but also allow the newbs to the server to rack up a bunch in their first week.

I second this. Nice one, Llenta.
