the exact same thing happened to my car a few years ago. I tried to file a police report but the cops laughed at me, I guess they only care about hit and runs when an actual person gets hit. I wasted a few hours of my life trying to hunt the motherfucker down myself since I knew it was a white truck or van of some sort based on the paint and the height of the damage. I never caught them. Gonna cost over 800 to fix (including vw rabbit rental car). Dent is worse irl than what it looks like in the pic..paint flaked off, goes in a lot, kinked the fender above the wheel arch. Hope this makes you feel better. yikes, that's a horrible spot to get a dent. is it just cosmetic, it didn't do damage to the arch itself did it? my oul fellah had a shit load of work done on his car for something that didn't look too dissimilar to that. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

Well, heres whats being done: -new fender: $225 -body labor: $180 -paint labor: $211 -paint supplies: $110 -3 day rental: $88 -dr seuss band aid: priceless Funny thing is that I barely touched the car. I was backing out of a tight spot with the wheel turned all the way to the right, and bumped the bumper of the jeep parked next to me. To picture what happened, hold out your hand with the corner of a table pointing to the middle of your hand. Then while moving it backwards (like a car backing up) start moving the front of your hand sideways (as if the wheel was turned to the right so your fingertips are moving left), and you'll see what I mean. Did 0 damage to the jeep. Not even a scratch. WTF? So much for german cars being built like panzers. get your ass to mars

This is why I buy cars from auctions for $1000 bucks or less (yes I know people)and throw them out after they die. You can always have the next newest car out there but as soon as you drive it off the lot its worth alot less than what you paid for it.
Also:
Insurance = cheap... I own the car..liability only etc.
If my car gets hit in the parking lot (which it has....twice) I could care less. I'll just buy another one next year.
Last car I bought was a nice Ford with power everything automatic Trans no dents for $700 bucks , yes its a station wagon  good for the family. When I wanna be pimp I just ride out in my show car I keep safe at home 99.9% of the time.

It is a 66' VW frame with a 68' Karman Ghia ( NOT A BUG) body. Tri-mil exaust with NO baffle makes the heads turn and the ears deaf. I Painted the car myself. Its a ford pace car blue with silver pearl in the clear coats. This is the third color I've had the car. Originaly it was orange. I crashed it the night before my wedding years ago and then painted it yellow with gold flake. Then some jack ass sat on my fender during a party at my house and cracked the paint...hence it is now Blue.
The Tires are 29" on the back 2" smaller than I have had on it earlier. Its your basic 1600cc stock engine with a lower geared VW bus transmission. It can beat people on short runs with the amount of tourque it has in 1st 2nd and 3rd but once I'm in 4th gear it has no pull left.
The designer "holes" on the front fender do serve a purpose by keeping the air flow from causing too much drag. It has a boat horn intstead of the stock horn to make sure people get the hell outa my way. (can never trust VW brakes)
It sports two 6" , two 10" , and two 5"x9" speakers to make sure I can hear the stereo over the engine.
I have taken this car apart and put it back together more than a few times..always fun. It won second place at a car show in Baja California for Best VW.
Have yet to install a power window/door lock package but looking into it when I can get the cash. Most of the time my car stays home unless its a awesome day to cruise around down by Ocean Beach, or Pacific Beach San Diego.
I have gotten more looks and tickets with this car than any other. Most of the tickets where for illegal modifications.

Now thats something you don't see every day. I mean, i've seen plenty of baja bugs, but not with the ghia body. So do you ever take it off road or on the beach somewhere? dont wanna hi-jack the thread, but thought id give an update.. Went to pick it up yesterday, they did a shitty job. They were supposed to replace/paint the LF fender and blend it to the door. They did a shitty job blending it. Looks like a bad tan line  Sorry for crappy cell phone pic. So I said that I wasn't accepting the job to the service manager. The body shop was out for the day so he said just get back your rental car and call the next day. I called this morning.. Him: So did you move the car yesterday? (to place blame on me) Me: No Him: Oh, well I had 3 guys look at it and it was because of a shadow. Me: No it wasn't. I saw the car yesterday in direct sunlight, there was no shadow. Him: Well I don't see any problem with the car. Me: Well I took pictures of the car, why don't I email them to you. I'll also attach one with arrows pointing out the damage. Him: Ok I'll have a look. *** Him: I still don't see what you're talking about. Me: Look at the third attached image, the one with the red arrows. Him: Oh. In the meantime I had a state farm agent have a look at it, he didn't see it either. Me: I don't want a problem as much as you do, look at the pictures. Him: Ok. I'll print this out and go have a look. *** Him: Ok I had a look, I still don't see it but my paint guy does. (so he doesnt look like a liar) Me: Look, I know cars. My grandfather owned a ford/lincoln/mercury dealership as well as a chrysler/dodge/plymouth dealership. I've restored 3 cars in my garage, two of which won gold medals for authenticity, and one that got silver..we missed gold by 3 points. Our good friend did the body work while i watched. I know whats good body work and I know whats bad body work and this is not good body work. I also checked and it doesnt look like you clear coated the entire door like you were supposed to. Him: No he did, but I'll make sure its properly clear coated. Me: Good. Now I dont want this rushed, but when can I expect this done? Him: Monday Me: Good. Thanks. get your ass to mars

You got off easy. Recently some asshat nailed my car while it was parked in front of my own house, instead of getting out and going up to the house to trade insurance info, he decided that it would be a better idea to crowbar my window, steal everything, and then drive off. Then insurance tried to nail me for a grand which is more than the cost of the repairs because they claim that even if it all happened exactly at the same time that the collision and the theft are two different cases and thus need two deductibles. Dude it's an 08 of course it had a car alarm, and for some ungodly reason it didn't go off! Oh and about what was I or my neighbors doing, we don't know what the hell happened because the guy broke into my car between 7:30 and 8:10 it was still daylight for part of that and pretty damn early..
