Except it isn't a war about oil. It's a war about many things, including a revenge mission.

I'm pretty sure oil has something to do with it. Lets not forget, most of our society is built upon oil and its by-products.

Well, okay.

The part that does have to do with oil is moreso about building an oil pipeline through Iraq. Before we could only build it to Turkey and it stopped at the Iraqi boarder. Now, we have permission. Odd how a war can do that when you kill the leadership and place into power Iraqi people with ties to big oil companies and make them the new leadership huh?

But is it just about oil? No. It's about a lot of things. Cheney worked for Haliburton, and Haliburton has the war contract, for instance.

I think that was more of a bonus. It was a no-bid contract also.

Now is it just me, or did someone just pop Obama's balloon in less than eight hours. Not a word today about his speech last night.  I had to laugh this morning at Obama's campaign response, "she has no experience!!!!", ROFL.  Kind of reminds me of the old saying "those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".

Their experience is no where near the same. She's been a governor for 22 months and people didn't feel she had the experience for even that, given she was only a mayor of a small town prior. Obama has years of experience in Washington.

And... there's something about his speech on television right now. Balloon... not so popped.

P.S. Republicans also can't complain about experience since Biden has more than McCain, and therefor the Obama ticket itself has a notable amount more experience than the McCain ticket does now.

The Bush/Cheney regime has plenty of experience and look where we ended up.

If Obama is inexperienced but wise, I'll take the inexperienced and wise guy vs. the experienced fools we have now any day.

I'm not sure it was valuable experience, though. Dubya had only 5 years of experience as Governor before running for president. While Cheney had experience in Washington, he was absent during the Clinton presidency. Personally I think there was a different way of thinking between the Cold War and more modern era; Cheney's experience was mostly of the Cold War period and Bush Sr.

Obama, Biden, and McCain all have modern Washington experience leading into the next term. Bush/Cheney really didn't. And I think it showed- they were businessmen playing politician and failing miserably at both.

EIA Stats

Crude Oil Imports into the USA
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html

Lots of facts about Oil
http://www.eia.doe.gov/basics/quickoil.html

Now if you believe the EIA stats, we import 10,031,000 Barrels of crude every day. Saudia Arabia alone makes up nearly 15% of that figure, so your number is off a bit.

I think the point is that if we make a significant effort to move towards alternative fuel and more drilling on our home soil, we could eliminate our need for imported oil.

Hybrid cars are no more expensive than a brand new SUV or sports car, and renewable wind and solar energy just lacks government funding. If America ran on mostly plug-in electrics and hybrids, we could reduce our oil dependency by as much as 75%.

FYI, it's the kind of crude humor and echo chamber hatred for "the other side" exemplified by this thread that results in the shocker Democrats have seemed to encounter every four years or so, called the "silent majority."

((EDIT: and before you call me a hypocrite, there's a huge difference between an inoffensive parody that pokes fun at policy choices and, ahem, "that woman looks like she could suck the peel off an orange."))

Maybe I'm just tired of hearing the same "no war for oil" "bush lied people died", election stealing halliburton 9/11 conspiracy no-bid theorist bullshit from otherwise reasonable people.  Maybe I've just moved too far to the center to understand the blind hatred for the other side.  Maybe I just need to learn to stop trying to reason with it.

Any parody can be taken offensively. I'm voting for Obama because he has half a brain when it comes to the energy policy, as opposed to McCain, who acts like ethanol is a new invention, and furthermore the most viable solution for independence from foreign oil. And even when it comes to ethanol, he's never even heard of a little plant called switchgrass, thinking he's going to build an ethanol empire from corn and sugarcane.

Wind and solar power can fuel a future of electric cars, which are on average 10 times more efficient than combustion vehicles anyway. And Obama promises 5 million jobs as a byproduct of his plans to fix the energy crisis, which is always cool.

My comment about sucking things is more about the manner in which Palin has been suddenly dragged into this campaign. Sure, she does look like a whore in some of her photos, but she is also whoring herself out to McCain. She doesn't have the experience or the brains that most people would like, but she's young and cute, and McCain feels that's all she needs to be.
