I don't think it's even a matter of directly conflicting views. The entire purpose for my position is to protect peoples' creations from other peoples' accidents or their lack of knowledge of game mechanics. The most he's alluded to in that regard is that forced maintenance is a good thing.

The way I see it...
If a newcomers plays with their Flint and Steel on a tree near spawn and inadvertently starts a fire that burns down the penguin you spent time making, that's a bad thing.

I'm not saying Flint and Steel should be disabled--which coincidentally is another option offered by WorldGuard--but there are things we can do here and there that help prevent such things from occurring with minimal impact to everyday business.

What I'm gathering from Porgon's arguments is that nothing should be done at all, ever. If that's what he means I wish he'd just come out and say "Hey victim, tough shit. Redo what you've already done that someone else destroyed."

That sentiment I disagree with 100%.

Really you're doing double speak now.

There should be a learning curve - but you put in mods to prevent that from happening.

Instead of learning how to deal with creepers, you just out and remove the terrain damage.

Instead of learning how to deal with fire - you removed it.

You're saying you're for a learning curve, but your actions paint a entirely different story -

You're placing the balance centered around the newbs, who can still learn - and handicapping people who know how the game works instead.

It's actually amazing how quickly this is becoming a argument about balance design - and I'll give you a tip - you balance around the 'pro' players - because new and casual players can always learn more - where at the top the level is static.

Edit -

As a matter of fact, yes, tough shit.

I'm sorry your building got blown up by a stray creeper - perhaps now you should learn how to put up a fence - so next time your fence gets blown up instead, and is far more easy to rebuild then whatever you just lost.

I'm sorry you fell into lava and lost your inventory - learn how to make moats properly and deal with lava safely

I'm sorry you got ganked in the woods by soul stealer - mid called missing and maybe you should learn to place wards or fall back to the tower

I'm sorry Akuma combo'd you into oblivion, learn to focus counter so he can't do that to you and - better yet - learn to follow it up with a combo of your own while he's crumpled.

You let people fall so they can learn - protecting them from themselves solves nothing.

And the most absurd part about all of this - Minecrafts learning curve isn't that high - barring red stone which is a luxury mechanic anyway - it's a casual sandbox game, how much to it do you REALLY think there is that you need to start taking shit out?

So because Creepers don't do terrain damage, you shouldn't learn how to fight them properly? So if you're out in the open and don't care about the terrain you... what? Run up and hug them? Is that what the pros do? If so I guess I'll never be pro. I don't want them exploding in my face. I don't want them exploding period. I'll still kill them from a distance or swing while backing away in hopes of avoiding them exploding. Frankly I think any normal person would. And that remains true whether or not they damage terrain.

So... a big "screw you" to everyone else who suffers from a forest fire caused as someone is learning?

Oh please. How is a pro negatively affected by Creepers not destroying terrain? The only valid argument I can think of is when baiting Creepers to intentionally destroy areas of land. And of course that's an argument you haven't even made.

Your main argument seems to be that without terrain damage, people don't have to protect their buildings the same way. No, they don't have to. But they still can. They're not prevented from doing anything.

You said you're going to school for game design? I mean... really?

Players can always learn more but... here's the thing... most don't really care to learn everything. Do you think every WoW player has Excel open in another window with complex equations to figure out the best configuration of equipment? No. A very, very small percentage of players go that far.

You balance around the normal level of player. How well do you think games would really sell if "hardcore" were the only difficulty level? Hint: not well.

But that's not even the point here...

This has nothing to do with an individuals' experience level, which you seem absolutely fixated on. This has to do with other people suffering negative effects as a result of that individual's learning. I've said this numerous times already.

Lava starting that forest fire? I learned from that. That's great. I now know that lava sets nearby flammable objects on fire. That doesn't mean that half the generated world needed to burn. And with the proposal in the other thread that lava goes back to starting fire but leaves don't burn to help prevent forest fires, a person will still learn that lava sets flammable items on fire. But now we don't risk burning half the generated world.

And honestly, you have no right to defend learning curves. You directly insulted me at least once on Monday for--according to you--not knowing certain things about the game. Insulting someone who you perceive to still be learning is not a way to sell the fact that people should be allowed to progress on a learning curve.

Still you miss the point. This has NOTHING TO DO WITH PEOPLE HARMING THEMSELVES.

And in Spanish: Esto no tiene nada que ver con PERSONAS DAÑANDO A SI MISMO.
And in Japanese: これは、人々が必要なことを自分たちを何も害していないようにします。
And in Chinese: 这什么也没有处理损害自己的人。

I explicitly said on Monday that if Creeper structure damage only damaged the structures of the person that made the Creeper blow up, I'd be perfectly fine with that.

This has to do with ONE PERSON'S ACTIONS HARMING SOMEONE ELSE.

And in Spanish: Esto tiene que ver con ACCIONES de UNA PERSONA que DAÑAN OTRA PERSONA.
And in Japanese: これは他の誰かを害してもの人の行動〔訴訟〕が必要でなければなりません。
And in Chinese: 这必须忍耐损害其他的某个人的一个人的行动。

Murder should be illegal.
Suicide should be legal.

Destroying anothers' property should be illegal.
Destroying your own property should be legal.

Punching someone else in the face should be illegal.
Punching yourself in the face should be legal.

If you don't get it yet then I just give up...

Deaer gods you are getting political over here aren't you? It's kind of cute actually -

It's ok, if you die in the game you don't die in real life.

Joking aside - and editing instead of double posting, it's a matter of being polite after all -
I'll also avoid breaking apart your posts point by point - and instead focus on your comment about WoW

Yes, it's not designed a majority of the content around the players who memorize every key detail of the game ( anymore - there are some of us who raided Molten Core back in the day ) However they still keep balance designed around those who do - constantly retooling the numerous abilities of ten fairly unique classes against each other - and trying to do it in such a way that the previous set feels natural going into the new one - and still keeping things fresh.

Added onto that - they've made more content be more strict as well, you can't just outgear and be pants on head retarded anymore going into the instances, you do need to sit down and learn the encounters or risk a wipe - which surprise! one person not knowing what the fuck is going on can usually wipe the party - especially if they're the healer or tank.

the one last point you seem to be trying to make fails anyway - if your base is safe from creepers when you're around, it should be safe from creepers when others are around. It's a matter of being well designed or not

Ok you keep arguing you did this to protect other peoples stuff but really if we did a reset and started new Everyone would be so far apart it wouldn't ever happen and if it did , it would be rare and i am sure the person would have the common sense to replace what was destroyed

Btw yes i dont fear creepers now , i walk out of my house and if they blow up oh well no work need to be done its not like 3 hearts is even close to a threat ...They are a low damage singular threat mob..
it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. More interested in acquiring "profits" than anything else. -Erkdog

Goes on to the second part - it's a matter of learning - sure, build by spawn ... awww ... your building got blown up by a wandering newb? well - instead of constantly maintaining maintenance, perhaps you should move farther out and build somewhere more vacant?

I'm also getting a mite tired of you playing the 'I'm fine with it, I just want to protect others" card - when both Frosty and I have you quoted as saying you wouldn't be playing on the server if the damage was turned back on. So stop acting all high and mighty and tell us how you really feel.

I don't want anyone's creations suffering from someone else's actions.
Not Muff's, not Quart's, not Hooli's, not Super's, not Bragr's, not Pigeon's, not Frost's, not yours, and not mine. But because I'm included in that list, somehow my entire argument is null and void?

Sure...

And we talked about this a page ago. Not sure why you're bringing it up as some great revelation that destroys my credibility.

My goal is to protect everyone's creations. There's really no way to exclude myself from "everyone". Sorry?

And yeah.. if my creations lack protection that I feel they should have and know they can have, I'll be inclined to seek out a server in which those protections exist. You've never chosen one server over another due to some personal preference? I do it all the time. Not sure why you're acting like it's some sort of petty ultimatum.

You were the ones acting like it was no big deal if changes to the server configuration costs us players.

Edit: And clearly this thread needs more straw man arguments. *eyeroll*

Nothing new really, since the last summary. The arguments haven't changed since the beginning. We just keep going in circles, focusing on some minute and often irrelevant detail or tangent each revolution.

The most exciting thing of late has been the attack on my character with the suggestion that my reasoning for this is really a selfish one, despite 3 pages of me saying it's to protect everyones' creations from others' mishaps--including, ironically, the creations of those arguing against me...

Well, in that case... Let me chime in on your wrinkly scrotum and the lack commentary on how unbuttered it is this fine evening. Spicy rum-rubbed yes, unbuttered, no. *sigh*

All I have to say is, I'm lolling at Porgon. He be trolling.

Sorry Rik, but now I'm completely on your side regardless of what you end up doing. I've lost sympathy for the other arguments.

Eh, I'm pretty much done - sorry muff, you'll have to find your cheap entertainment elsewhere.

If you're really bored just go onto 4chan and start complaining about how your kind aren't allowed to post there, it'll be good for a laugh.
