Leading a nation is all about "fine words". One person cannot change the world by their actions alone, but their words can inspire the masses to change the world. How many famous speeches in history have sparked movements? How many charismatic leaders used their words to rally their people for war? A leader is a person who taps into their followers' senses and makes them believe in something.

Obama could turn out to be one of the worse politicians in history. But even if that were the case, I suspect he'll be one of the greatest leaders this country has ever had.

So what have these masses changed other than their underwear?

It has only been a few days since his acceptance speech.

I'm pretty sure we didn't get to the moon and I'm pretty sure Germany didn't take over most of Europe in a matter of a few days.
Besides, he'll have many more speeches to come.

Apparently Obama wouldn't take questions from Fox News at his first press conference.

Must be shy.

Obama hype!  I have a feeling he will be a run of the mill president.   Better than bush was, but not this messiah figure that has been created.   jeeze you would think that after he is inagurated we are going to start counting the years of a brand new age!

Come January the calander will read 0000 AO.   (after obama)

I suspect many non-believers said the same thing about Jesus. =P
For African-Americans, and even other minorities, I can see how this can affect them to near-biblical proportions.

Until he fails to "save Africa" as many seem to think he's going to do.

It's a better reaction than anyone else would ever have to any request from Fox News. I can only hope that this is motivated by an intent to disenfranchise the franchise.

I don't get the hatred for Fox News.  I watch it sometimes, but so what?  I personally don't think it's a right-wing news organization, but even if it leans a little right, who bloody cares?  I don't see anyone up in arms that MSNBC or CNN is left-wing, taking apart things its reporters and analysts say and blasting it like it's an agent of satan, so who cares if Fox News does the same on the other side?

If you don't like something on TV, don't watch it!!  Regardless of your political leanings, though, you should be glad we live in a country where both sides can be heard.  The last thing you should want to suggest is that a channel or commentator that doesn't agree with you should be shut down.  That's the complete opposite of free speech and tolerance.

And for the record, I don't see anyone on the right calling for places like MSNBC and Air America to be shut down (they may point out what they feel to be media bias, but that's different from saying the organization should be "disenfranchised").

Ok, you know why I have a problem with Faux Noise?

How about this?  The majority of the stories they report are NOT well researched and are not even considered to be newsworthy by other stations.  Before you say it, its not because of the left-wing/right-wing bias, its because the majority of the other news stations actually check their facts instead of choosing the most sensationalist headlines and making a story up around it.

The problem comes when people who actually believe Fox is a news organization, listen to Fox and believe the shit that they spout.

NEWS FLASH
OBAMA NOT MUSLIM!
OBAMA IS NOT A SOCIALIST!
Fucking deal with it.
Suffers from the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush

Bush Derangement Syndrome

*shakes his head*

Okay........ have you ever scrutinized any other news outlet in your life, or are they all free of the the problems you're talking about?  I seem to recall a pretty big "media as the news" story recently about a New York Times reporter just MAKING UP stories.

I don't recall them ever claiming Obama was muslim or a socialist.  I'm sure there are some stories that have questioned the latter, and guests on shows that might have thought it, but I don't see why Obama's policy leanings aren't newsworthy.  But hey, you must watch FNC so you might know better.

Again, though, I'm not trying to defend Fox so much as say it's hypocritical to call for their heads with so much hatred then give a pass to other, at the very least equally problematic news outlets, and I think you've illustrated my point about hatred perfectly.  Thanks.

Did I defend any of the other news outlets?  No, stop putting words in my mouth.

I attacked Fox because they are the shining example of bullshit which we have to put up with American based media.

Hell, when I want actual intelligent coverage of American Politics I turn to the BBC.

Actually, I think the problem is when some people fly off the goddamn handle about a fucking cable news channel they don't like, but that's just me.

If Fox News isn't a news organization, what does that make CNN? lol

Just because Fox News dominates the ratings is no reason to spew irrational hatred.
