So. What? I don't care if he was THE most influential. It doesn't mean he's exempt from any laws. Of course he isn't exempt from any laws, only celebrities, execs from big corporations, high-level politicians, soldiers and intel operatives who torture, and cops are exempt from the law. Anyways... he didn't violate any laws, he yelled at a dumb cop and got arrested for it. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

who fucked with the topic? it's the title of a fucking Ice Cube song you PC fuck. if you're going to mess it up at least have the decency to change it to something stupid like N*****. I never said they should be exempt too. I'm quite upset how people who entertain us or cooperations which reach a certain level of mass get somehow exempt from things normal people would never get away with. Its freaking retarded. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:The "disturbance" was this dude trying to fix his door! Do you honestly believe the cops would of been called if he was white? The initial call is an oversensitive neighbor. They're especially prevalent in upper-class neighborhoods. I wouldn't have called. I'da said "looks like he's having trouble getting into his house" and then I'd eat some pizza. Nonetheless, even if the neighbor is a conflagrating racist, that doesn't make the cop's presence racist, nor does it affect the arrest. They're two separate parties. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:You really have no clue how racism works if you think cops explicitly conspire in the way you describe, behavior like that is significantly less common than cops assuming all black people are criminals and unconsciously treating them like shit. It's the classic "driving while black" shit, it happens to upper class black people and black people who don't live in "black neighborhoods" all the time. There is no support to the claim that he was "treated like shit." The officer followed standard protocol. What we have here is a fundamental difference of beliefs. I, by and large, trust authority figures. You clearly do not. All over the walls. It must feel good. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote: A similar thing happened to one of this guys friends, another prominent black scholar at Harvard treated like shit and threatened with arrest because he was black, it caused a huge shitstorm. Black people in suits can't be arrested without causing a "shitstorm." Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:This guy lives in a neighborhood full of rich white people. He is fixing his broken door when one of his racist neighbor assumes no "coloreds" (because that's the polite term used by the racist old Yankee types) could possibly live in her upscale neighborhood. Again, zero facts to support the claim of initial racism. Thrown out. Doesn't hold water. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:Pigs show up, nice old rich lady says there are niggers on the loose, cops go to this guys home and treat him like a criminal, even after he shows them his ID and thus establishing that it is HIS HOUSE (i.e. there is no crime) the cop is still trying to question the guy. I think you're misinterpreting what happened. Look at the reports. At least once. Gates gives his ID card ( after initially refusing ). The officer sees that he's a professor, radios back his findings and prepares to leave. He is again demanded that he repeat his name. He begins to give it and is then yelled over by Gates, being called a racist and being threatened that he "wasn't someone to mess with." The officer leaves and approaches the sidewalk. Gates follows him, continuing to berate and harass him. The officer reaches the sidewalk ( no longer on Gates' property) and warns him telling him to calm down while removing his handcuffs from their case, sending a message of potential for arrest. Gates ignores warnings, continues harassment, and is arrested. The cop was standard. Gates was not. Charges were dropped because he raised hell about something that didn't matter (someone mistaking his action for unlawful entry) and nobody wanted to deal with such a ludicrous case. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:No crime, black dude is pissed off and calling you out on your racism, you apologize and leave. You don't fucking arrest the guy for being "tumultuous." You do if there's a law against it. Oh wait. There is. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:The cop himself admits that he arrested the professor for yelling at him! What the fuck does he expect? Police typically "admit" to what they arrest people for. Assuming he was mirandized (duh), then Gates was also informed of what he was being arrested for. He might have simply been yelling too loud to hear. Oh, how that would be telling. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:Even assuming the improbable, that were he a white Harvard professor in this exact same situation, do you really believe the cop would of still arrested him? Not only do I believe so, I most certainly hope so. Harassment is harassment, no matter who's doing it. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:He comes into this guys home and totally disrespects him. I ask only that you find evidence to back that claim. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:You would have to be a bootlicking fascist not to be yelling at the cop. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:Additionally, per statements from his friends, he is recovering from some kind of infection and apparently his voice is fucked up so it's questionable whether he was actually even yelling. links ploxDick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:If you would like we can conduct an experiment. A neighbor thought I was breaking in and called the cops. The exchange was something like "We received a report of breaking and entering...you know anything about that?" "Nope. Just me gettin' into my house." "Well, okay. Can I see ID" "Here you go." "Okay, lemme check with central." --some minutes pass as one of the two officers goes to the car. Because Gates is a man who has never hesitated to throw down the race card ( in this case, flinging a veritable deck of 52 race cards ). And because his lawyer's statement regarding the incident is one story versus two separate stories in complete agreement. The evidence is stacked against Gates, but the rhetoric and sheeple are stacked against the law. Such is the way of the left. A black man who lives in a rich white neighborhood has a white cop show up at his house accusing him of breaking in and demanding ID. That's inherently fucked up. Instead of apologizing and leaving he arrested the guy for yelling at him, in my book that is treating him like shit. There would be something really fucked up with the black dude if he wasn't pissed off at the cop. It's insulting as fuck, and considering the context it's completely reasonable for the black dude to assume that race has played a major deciding role in the cop being there and treating him the way he is. Seriously, this is America! He is an African-American! He would have to be literally retarded to not think racism was a factor. Do you really think the cop was all Officer Friendly with him? There would be something really fucked up with the black dude if he wasn't pissed off at the cop. Since you seem so attracted to the idea of the law being used in context, let's use that model to look at this situation. In the context of intense verbal abuse in public directed toward a police officer, the law against disorderly conduct was applied. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:It's insulting as fuck, and considering the context it's completely reasonable for the black dude to assume that race has played a major deciding role in the cop being there and treating him the way he is. If I'm reading this right, any time an african-american is arrested in America, racism is a factor. The thought process at work here is indicative of fundamental misunderstandings regarding social mechanics, further disenfranchising your arguments. Now remember everyone, all cops lie in their paperwork, are corrupt, and have no sense of moral or legal boundary that separates them from other cops. There is no possible way for anyone in law enforcement to be reasonable or ethical. I know because I heard about it on the news. I'd like to see someone post an article for once that actually praises cops and doesn't attack them. Everyone is always willing to jump up and kick the pigs in the ribs when there is a legal controversy, but it's a fucking impossible task when it comes to giving them an ounce of credit for anything. They have been met with vulgarity, incomplete responses and blatant rhetoric with no grounding in fact, evidence, or logic, the three pillars of any functional decision. ORLY? As far as I've seen your argument has been "cops are always right, even when they admit they were wrong". I've been mostly assuming that you were playing some kind of a game with me making facetious arguments and whatnot. Since it seems that this is not the case, I apologize if my failure to adhere to the polite decorum necessary for you to comprehend my arguments has given offense. I often employ vulgarity, sarcasm, irony, and parodic snideness in my arguments because I find it amusing and useful for emphasis and often more convenient than writing out some long winded shit that no one is going to read. So, because it seems as if these things have somehow obscured my argument let me break it down special ed style: 1) It is extremely likely that were Professor Gates black the police never would of been called. You seem to be unaware of this but most white people are racist and have various prejudices and assumptions about people who are not white. When a white person in a neighborhood like the one Professor Gates lives in sees a white person trying to unstick a stuck front door in broad daylight their first thought is much less likely to be "he's robbing the place!" than it is "that guy's door broke". Doors getting stuck is a fairly common problem in that neighborhood, the houses are generally very old and expand and contract depending on weather conditions. Professor Gates is an old man who uses a cane to get around, in the absence of racism there is no plausible explanation for believing he is a burglar. 2) Police are generally racist. It's the nature of the job. They see the worst of humanity, they are usually white men and thus a product of a racist culture. Police in America have a long history of racism and "police culture" itself often still carries that legacy. The American justice system in general is racist. African-American culture has evolved in that climate and African-Americans thus reasonably assume that white police officers are racist. 3) Professor Gates is a world renowned scholar. He isn't some hot-headed young black nationalist looking for a fight. He is a part of the black upper class and is one of the most well known and respected professors at the most prestigious university in the world. He was in his own home when a police officer showed up at his door demanding that he prove that he belongs there. It is completely rational for him to be angered by this and to assume that the police officer is motivated by racism. 4) The police officer escalated the situation by entering Professor Gates home without invitation and by refusing repeated requests to give his name or badge number once shown identification proving that Professor Gates was in fact in his own home. 5) The police officer shouldn't of arrested Professor Gates. It is completely reasonable that Professor Gates is angry and that he expresses that anger. The only "evidence" that he "harassed" the police officer comes from the self-serving report of the police officer. When Professor Gates exited his home he was arrested in front of several other police officers and one or more of his neighbors. The DA is not prosecuting Professor Gates and the police department describes the incident as "regrettable and unfortunate". The logical conclusion is that what the arresting officer claimed happened and what actually happened are not the same thing. A crime was not committed by Professor Gates. There are several more arguments I could include and will if they become necessary, but for now I believe the above should suffice. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.
