Frostbite wrote:I was going to stay out of your little bitch fests guys but this quote threw me off .. Rik when you started changing shit right at the beginning i asked about voting for the changes you said "This was NOT a Pds server" and you implied it was a personal server because it took so much usage of the computer
Your stance might of changed but when the server first was started you said "my server my rules"
So you can understand why he said that Wrong yet again, Frost. 2011-02-14 14:11:04 [INFO] <Yomu> or at least don't call it PDS 2011-02-14 14:11:12 [INFO] <Rikaelus> I never did call it pDs Like I've said repeatedly, I've never called it one way or the other. Get over it. I said that, you both assumed I meant it's not pDs, when all I meant was that I didn't call it pDs. I wasn't the one who did. That doesn't mean it is or isn't... it means I never said it one way or the other. And even if I had, what does it matter? I still wouldn't put every server setting up for vote. And comparing Minecraft to TF2 is simply stupid. There's not a single gameplay mechanic in TF2 that leads to accumulative map damage over a long time period. A round restarts in TF2 and everything is reset to normal. A better comparison would be against a FPS that has a destructible terrain and the notion of leaving it destroyed indefinitely. So after a couple days of playing, every building would be rubble on the ground and never be reset. That'd be pretty stupid, don't you think? Here's an excerpt later on, showing that someone else obviously gets what you guys can't: 2011-02-14 16:39:08 [INFO] <Yomu> then either put it on the boards to be voted upon and argued properly 2011-02-14 16:39:13 [INFO] <Yomu> or get it off pds 2011-02-14 16:39:34 [INFO] <blahooligan> yell at bragr about that, he gave us the forum space 2011-02-14 16:39:36 [INFO] <Yomu> really : / I'm fine with finding another server - but I wouldn't promote it on the clan board 2011-02-14 16:39:51 [INFO] <Yomu> unless it was a clan server - listening to what the clan members 2011-02-14 16:39:54 [INFO] <Rikaelus> Then I'll promote it on WDFNews.com, which is more than just pDs =) And you know how you said repeatedly a couple days ago how you most absolutely positively never started a forest fire around your tower with your lava? You did. You made comments to it in the logs 5 days before my forest fire happened. I can provide that excerpt from the logs, too, if you really want. You guys should really stop making bullshit up. Practically all the communication I've had with either of you took place in the game or in these forums, both of which are stored indefinitely. Pretty easy to prove you guys wrong when the evidence is on record and easily accessible. If the logs didn't contain information strangers could use to find the server location, I'd gladly make it web-accessible. At least then it'd put the burden of proof on you guys for all these accusations you make.

This actually made me think. 2011-02-14 16:39:36 [INFO] <Yomu> really : / I'm fine with finding another server - but I wouldn't promote it on the clan board Anyone who isn't happy with the server can freely find another to play on, but do any of us have the right to destroy what people have created? Resetting the server does have that effect. That's a pretty big action to take, and it's one that could actively push established players from playing further and discourage new players from joining. Even in a democracy the minority is protected from being affected too severely. Resetting the server is the most severe thing that can happen here. Also, anyone on the forums is able to vote. They may not play the game at all. People could make fake accounts for the sheer purpose of fixing a vote. A forum poll seems an inherently dangerous mechanism to use to do something of this magnitude... From a more personal perspective, I'd think it'd be akin to how votes work in public companies. Different people have invested different level of resources, so shouldn't the voting reflect that? One-person-one-vote puts a person who has invested 180 hours on the same level with someone who has invested 1 hour, or maybe even none. It seems hours-played should be a factor in any vote about server settings of any game. Anyway.. there's probably no stopping this vote now, but it's something to think about in the future. Edit: I also re-explored the notion of running multiple servers and it's definitely out. I tried limiting the current server to use 512MB of memory instead of 1024MB, and the first thing it screamed was "**** NOT ENOUGH RAM!". So apparently every instance really needs 1GB, and I just can't afford to have two instances running with that. I think the server only has 2GB. =/

Is there a way to just set this "world" aside and save it for later? It would be nice to keep it around in case we want something to go back to if Minecraft-Armageddon happens. Otherwise, I might be up for a server reset, just a shame that Rikaelus has spent so much time in our current server. But also, I have this to say: Let what's done lie and let us concentrate our efforts on making the best server possible. No need to attack one another and try to prove each other wrong with chat logs. We should establish explicit rules before we reset the server (if we DO reset the server), hopefully establishing them in a democratic fashion. Thank you. Otherwise, I might be up for a server reset, just a shame that Rikaelus has spent so much time in our current server. It can be copied and archived, but I'm not sure how long it'll be good. The upgrade to 1.3, for instance, rebuilt the world since the save format changed. Considering the game is still in beta, I'd expect that to happen a few more times. It's hard to say if a copy of the world several versions old will be usable if not updated incrementally along the way. I'm most annoyed about this since we had this same vote just a couple weeks ago. If we're going to accept the notion that votes for resets will be an acceptable thing, there's no assurance what-so-ever that anything we make in the future won't be wiped based on a forum poll which, as I pointed out previously, is very subject to fixing. That's another deal breaker for me, personally. I wouldn't want to play on any server, dedicating hours and hours of work, without a guarantee what I've done is there to stay. I didn't pull that 180 hours out of my butt. I've put in at least that amount--probably more. And that's just over a one month period. What if a poll like this came up after 6 months? How many accumulated hours of work, put in by everyone, would be wiped in a blink of the eye? From the get-go I wanted multiple servers; one that never reset and was creation-focused, one that was open to resets and more towards learning/PvP/Castle Wars/etc. Exactly. For. This. Reason. Sigh. We should establish explicit rules before we reset the server (if we DO reset the server), hopefully establishing them in a democratic fashion. If someone wants to propose what the rules are and how to enforce them, I'm game. So far I've just been yelled at for not making any without any recommendations as to how. And the discussions we've had about territory didn't come to any real conclusion.

Tune in tomorrow for another exciting episode of "As {pDs} turns". Funny thing is I was starting to think it might be fun to play this. If I wanted bitching and moaning I would talk to my wife and kids.

Porgon and Frost don't really play that much and only seem to complain in-game when I'm the only other one on.

Almost everyday is not a lot? Btw Rik nice selective editing , I was the one who brought up the pds server issues long before porgon , yet you are quoting him to deny my agreement? it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. So no.... not a lot. Especially when I average 11 hours a day. I knew I was guessing low in my prior 180 hour guess, since I know I idle quite a bit. But not that much. My active playtime is probably along the lines of 75%, which is still 252 hours. By the by... If the poll succeeds, when did you think we should reset it? Your purpose seems to be primarily due to the forthcoming bed/respawn functionality, but I don't think there's any ETA on when that's due to be released. And none of the other problems you guys have stated have lead to this need have been resolved. Seems like if we reset it now it'll end up just more of the same. And if we postpone the reset there will be no point in playing on the server until the bed/respawn functionality is added.

You do know play time logged in the server dont = Time PLAYING the game yea i so 1+ hours a day if i can but i would have a high time like yours if i idled all day like you do/did before the bed update it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. Well, I'm going to vote No on the reset. At least not until an update has actually outdated the server. It definitely seems fine as of right now, I'm sure a time will come (probably like 6 months down the line) when the full version comes out and we will need to reset, but until then, no reset. just looking at the stats you provided Rikaelus: 337:30:52 blahooligan: 64:32:27 SuperPenguin: 37:49:24 Trysis: 37:25:36 quartsize: 34: 0:42 Yomu: 31:17:59 bragr: 25:59:35 pDs_Crawdad: 21:49:44 EnragedAardvark: 7:42:49 thexshadow: 0:22:52 pDs_McCheese: 0: 6:30 So of the 11 people who play the server - frosty and I are respectably in the top 6? that's not too terrible, especially considering how little we play :P Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:Porgon made me cry so hard last night when he kept getting me from behind over and over again.

I vote don't care because I obviously have no stakes in this server reset. If I did, I'd vote yes. Minecraft is like legos to me. At some point, all dem legos gotta go in da lego bukket. Also, I might - MIGHT - start playing at that point. Also Rik, stop idling for hats. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack
