If I did, I'd vote yes. Minecraft is like legos to me. At some point, all dem legos gotta go in da lego bukket. Also, I might - MIGHT - start playing at that point.
Also Rik, stop idling for hats. You get to have a opinion when you start playing on the server, not before. Now go back to the kitchen and make me a sandwich. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:Porgon made me cry so hard last night when he kept getting me from behind over and over again.

As an avid Lego user in my youth... I don't agree at all. If I could have kept all of my creations I would have. The only reason I destroyed things was because I only had so many Legos, and only so many good ones that I commonly used. I needed to destroy in order to build. But that's not the case here. Both your block supply and the size of your playroom is infinite (conceptually speaking). So why destroy? Point of fact.. I have sitting in my display cabinet the last Lego creation I made. I was so proud of it I refused to destroy it to make anything new. So I chose to retire my Lego creating after I made that. But that aside, there's more to this poll than just that. A vote for "yes" not only means you're willing to sacrifice your creations to start anew, but you'd be working towards forcing the destruction of the creations of those who don't want to give up what they've done. To be honest I was a little hurt when Crawdad voted "yes" after I pointed that our earlier. =( I'd never assume I have the right to dictate the destruction of anothers' work. Hopefully I can eventually run multiple servers, because I really don't see ever resetting the server without unanimous support of all stakeholders.

Hmmm, this really is a tough question though, I really can see the advantages to both sides, I also wish we could get Muff and 3Bam in here :D Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. Backpack of Win

Rik - take a screenshot, it'll last longer. Probably. My lego creations really sucked because we never really had enough contiguous pieces to make anything especially good looking. Maybe thats why we have our different opinions. Heh. I dunno, I never get especially attached to most of my creations. All my artistic pieces that I've made I've given away. Sometimes I even just destroy the piece so I can move on, you know? The value for me was in the making rather than the end product. ITS THE JOURNEY NOT THE DESTINATION! Yah! I remembered the quote. Anyway, that was a stream of consciousness right there. (Ulysses was a bitch to read) If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

That point I'd never argue against. But I'd rather eventually provide that through additional servers, rather than wipe out the accumulative hundreds of hours of work people have put into this world. (Ulysses was a bitch to read) I agree the journey is more important than the destination, but the journey is greater than any one building, fortress, tunnel, or skyway. The real journey is the collective development of the entire virtual world. It's one of the reasons I never bought the "maintenance is good" argument. You should build something, finish it, then move on to something new. Rinse and repeat. I haven't visited my first outpost in probably a week, save for one or two quick runs to get supplies I had stored in it. My focus now is my lighthouse/compound. And when I'm done with that I'll move on to something else. The point of a multiplayer server, IMO, is that what we've made is inherently shared with all other players. The only way for it to be shared is for it to survive. Otherwise why not simply play single-player?

Shared...good idea. Besides, stuff doesn't get blown up unless someone is actually around it, which is why I don't build artsy things by my house. Anyway, you could just plop down the spawn point somewhere else. Also, there is a neat tool to generate a googlemap version of your minecraft map...but I don't know what it is. I just know it exists. We just need to find something that'll preferably work from the live game world (versus manual copy&process of the world files) and something that won't cause corruption. The server being Linux, we'd also need to make sure any automatic mapping things works in that environment. Only downside is that they don't do justice to peoples' underground constructions. But there's really no avoiding that, short of something that lets you see through the world.. which itself would lead people too easily to resources.

Yeah, there's no real satisfactory underground map thing. There are minimap mods, obviously. I'm not sure if they work in SMP though. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

i wana see No pressure, right? I'll try to get some pics of it. It'll probably not be that impressive in the scheme of things, but was the best use I figured I'd ever come up with, with the blocks I had to work with.

So it's worth my time to play some more because the server is not going to be reset (in the near future)?
