Super Penguin wrote:They updated the site, here's the link for the official rules: ^_^Here's the rundown: Each team picks a map to play on. Best of three wins, tiebreak is played on Koth_ashville_rc1. For our pick we can choose any of the maps that we played on during the regular season, here's the list, since I'm sure you all have forgotten by now: pl_badwater cp_warmfront cp_follower koth_lakeside cp_gullywash_final1 cp_steel pl_swiftwater_ugc ctf_turbine_pro_b1 koth_pro_viaduct_rc3 cp_granary pl_upward koth_ashville cp_gravelpit In my opinion, good choices for us are badwater, warmfront, lakeside, turbine, granary, upward, or gravelpit. Unless we want to buckle down and pick one of the custom maps and practice it well. The other team could very well pick the same map as us, so we should have a backup in mind. Playing on the same map for 2 rounds could prove fatal. Think about which map you're best at and which one you think the team played the best on. My recommendations really don't matter, we've played all these maps now so we have experience with them. Scary. My vote is for Upward, since we did so well on that one. Gravelpit went well, too, but that's kind of a risky map. Granary we got our asses handed to us on, so I'm not too excited to revisit that one...

I'm in for one KOTH map and either upward or badwater. That avoids what we did to last weeks team on the timed CP capture wins. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"

We have done quite well on KOTH maps in the past, we even won while a man-down on lakefront. We also did pretty well on gullywash, which would probably be my pick if we were to do a 5 point cp. As for Payload, we would probably want to go with upward, we also did pretty well on that one. Gravelpit is an interesting option as well. That's probably the best match we've played all season and we know the strategy for that map pretty well. I encourage you all to watch the videos posted by a player known as Moose here: eXtv - Moose TracksThey give in-depth analysis on most of the Highlander Maps. Super Penguin wrote:We have done quite well on KOTH maps in the past, we even won while a man-down on lakefront. Yeah, I'm leaning more and more towards KOTH. Even if we didn't win, we always put up a good fight on those. I think that's where we have the most solid performance, and KOTH will be better for our powerful but slow Bendy than 5 point CP. Quote:We also did pretty well on gullywash, which would probably be my pick if we were to do a 5 point cp. Maybe I missed that week. I have nothing but bad memories of those many-point CP maps... Quote:Gravelpit is an interesting option as well. That's probably the best match we've played all season and we know the strategy for that map pretty well. My only counter to that would be that our adversaries will be just as familiar with it, though obviously Upward was played not that long ago, too. We did really well but that's still too much of a wildcard IMO. Here are my recommendations, by type, based on our victories and their losses: CP: cp_gullywash_final1 - We won 3-2 but they lost 0-5 KOTH: (we've outperformed them on every KOTH map, so I'll comment on each) - koth_lakeside - We won 4-1, but they didn't play it. So that might be an unknown. - koth_pro_viaduct_rc3 - We won 4-0, they lost 3-4 - koth_ashville - We won 4-1, they won 4-3 Based on that I'd recommend either of the last two, really. With them scoring 4-3/3-4, they look like major contenders on either, but we generally did better and lakeside is an unknown quantity. Payload: pl_upward - We and them both won 2-0 so, while I enjoy the map... that might not be a pick in a favor. But the other pl we lost... and it wasn't pretty, if I remember correctly...

Just a reminder that our map choice has to be turned in tonight (or so I read...) I'd say cp_gullywash_final1. koth_ashville_rc1 will be the assigned third map, if we need it.

badwater is good but any map you guys want is fine , my role in the game as a whole is minor so its not for me to pick lol it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. More interested in acquiring "profits" than anything else. -Erkdog

{pDs} Super Penguin Posted on Wednesday, Apr 25, 2012 at 4:07 PM EST/EDT Hello there! Congratulations on making it to the finals, we're looking forward to the match! I'm sure you know this already but map picks are due by Friday at midnight. We're still debating over which one to pick, so I'll hold off on that for now. And do you guys have a server for us to play on since you're the home team? And finally, does the default match time work alright for you guys? and our fearless leader fails too post our map choice after he posted this to the other team... {pDs} Muffalopadus [DI]: I'm running around throwing dildos at people naked while riding a unicicle Well, Star Wars Galaxies got into a massive head on collision with a truck carrying gasoline, causing a massive explosion. Should be interesting. Assuming we still get pl_upward, we'll be playing 3 maps they won during the tournament versus 2 that we won. And I think they did a fair amount of research, themselves. They picked steel, which we didn't actually play. So from their perspective they have the advantage. 'course, they must not realize we kicked the other team's ass in the scrim we had instead. =P That or they visited our forums, saw how much I absolutely hate steel, and picked it for that reason alone...

Hey guys, just got back to somewhere with an internet connection and an actual computer. I sent that last message with the last ounces of battery life my poor little phone had and I've been travelling since then. Sorry again for all the bleh, hopefully they let us have our pick. Otherwise we'll be assigned a random map from an admin (which still shouldn't be too bad). They haven't replied to my post yet, so I'm not sure what they'll do. Thanks for not freaking out (I hope) and see you tomorrow for the match, it should be a good one! Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. I'd like to congratulate and thank everyone that participated in the Highlander tournament with us the last few months. It brought back fond memories of the community we've had here in the past and it was a lot of fun. Special thanks to Super for all his work in coordinating for the team with the UGC. It was an epic battle to the top of the bottom of the tournament. Our improvement as a team was phenomenal and I hope we can continue to play together in the future. Thanks again and don't fall in the hole. virus "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"

Well super there is always next time right ?.lol that last map was close and tense as hell next time i will not play spy , i am so useless in most games it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. Frostbite wrote:i am so useless in most games This. In seriousness, good job guys. I had my doubts but the team came through. I just wish we hadn't had 3 people drop in that 4th round--would have easily been 4-0, I think, if we weren't playing that round with 7/8 people.
