I found some statistics that prove the point of the age layout of most WoW players. The commercial is geared towards that age level above it and below it, especially since the mean is 28.5 there is plenty of room to move in both directions. I think it was effective, comedic and well produced.
As for who will actually buy a Toyota truck after seeing the commerical is probably along the same lines as who is going to buy a TRANE air conditioner after seeing the commerical, or who will change their banking to WAMu instead of those rich fat greedy bastard banks out there. Its not about jumping up and buying it the day of the commercial, its the long term impact the commerical has over the psyche of the buyer.
Hey my Air Conditioner is out, didnt we see a commerical for alocal TRANE AC dealer a few days ago. Lets go see what they got.
Hey my bank charges to much for check fees and ATM withdraws from other banks, didnt we see a WAMu commerical talking about free checking and ATM access a few eeks back? Man that commerical is stuck in my head especially since it included naked old men in it.!!!!
hey my car finally broke down on me, remember that kick ass WoW commercial we saw, lets go look at some Toyota trucks.
Thats how business works, thats how commericals work. It amazes me sometimes thats how they work, but THATS how they work.
(Now I got a headache. you know I've never tried HEAD-ON nor have I applied it directly to my forehead, i wonder if it works ! !)

Dude Toyota is a multi billion dollar company who spends a crap load of money on marketing. I'm sure whoever came up with this add did their homework. I think it was a fine add and yes there are plenty of people who buy trucks who don't haul things around. {pDs}BelligerentPimp wrote: No using the word "fucktard" unless you are refering to TonyRWC or Youngripark.j2. This is more of a discussion now, I can respect that, cool:
But how many of them
a.) Have the money or will to buy a new car - Only 25% of MMORPG players are teenagers. (its safe to say that unless their parents are loaded, they are'nt buying their own)
- About 50% of MMORPG players work full-time. (I can think of several full time workers who could probably afford a new truck.) but of course that all depends on how much money you make at your full-time job, I am sure its debatable assuming their credit is worthy of getting a new truck, or they have the cash upfront to purcahse it out right, this could be debated forever unless there is a specific research, study or survey census that exists already out there.
- About 36% of players are married, (thats a "this way or that way" possible trucks, but more or less a sedan or full size SUV) if its a 2 income family than I am fairly confident thinking that they could afford a truck if they wanted one.
- 22% have children. (Probably mini-vans or SUVs depending on the income, if its a sizeable income, possible family vehicle and a boys toy recreation vehicle, probably a truck. Once again, if that 22% is also considered married and have 2 incomes, the topic could be debated even further. Now if its a single person working in a family home, no, I dont think its possible for that scenario to be a purchaser of a new truck for recreation purpose's when the "family" needs to think and act as one.
So the MMORPG demographic is fairly diverse, including high-school students, college students, early professionals, middle-aged home-makers, as well as retirees. In other words, MMORPGs do not only appeal to a youth subculture.

This data is Brand-Model-Series-4-Cylinder Engine size-Gas City/Hwy
Toyota Tacoma, A-4, 2.7L: 19 / 22
Toyota Tacoma, M-5, 2.4/4: 22 / 27
Toyota Tacoma, A-4, 2.4L: 22 / 25
The best in the 4 cy class is Ford Ranger Pickup, M-5, 2.3L: 24 / 29 - So yes, it wouldnt be very wise to get a poor performance in this area if money and budget is the question. But than of course that all depends on how far you travel to get to work or your recreational activities. 1 year ago I traveled 35 mins to work, now I travel 5 mins to work, so this can very a solid question based on your income or it could be a mute point. But none the less still a valid point.
This data is Brand-Model-Series-6-Cylinder Engine size-Gas City/Hwy
Toyota Tacoma, M-5, 3.4L: 19 / 24
Toyota Tacoma, A-4, 3.4L: 17 / 20
Toyota Tundra, A-4, 3.4L: 16 / 20
Toyota Tundra, M-5, 3.4L: 16 / 20
The best in the 6 Cy class is Toyota Tacoma, M-5, 3.4L: 19 / 24
- The vehicle they show in the commercial is the Toyota Tacoma 3.4L 6 Cyl engine with the best GPM in the 6 cy class.

Anyway, everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as they understand the definition of opinion. Facts based on data far out-weigh opinion.

"MMORPG statistics" aren't great representatives of WoW statistics. There is a severe amount of adults who play runescape, eve online, and the SIMS, which is usually included, as well as other games. Even so, they still aren't great representation because the amount of people who actually take the surveys are few and not far between (the same way there are no reliable "average penis size" surveys, because guys who think they have small penises usually don't participate.) And yet even so, they cannot be reliable in determining who would or wouldn't buy a truck, because the opinion varies greatly between individuals and is awkward to gauge. I don't understand how you can belittle a perfectly logical observation as an "opinion", but if it helps you sleep at night, go right ahead.

He gives you the information you asked for and then you go and scrutinize it so it still looks like you are right. This is why I think you are an asshole Avner. You start shit, and when you know you are beat you just keep starting more shit. How can you say that MMORPG stats arent a great representation of WoW players? WoW is currently the most popular MMORPG out there. Meaning the majority of MMORPG players are WoW players. Not only does this information support WoW players but all MMORPG players as well. Just because you won't buy a truck because it was on a WoW commercial has nothing to do with what they were trying to do. They made a funny commercial. They did what they sought out to do. Now when people think about the funny commercial they think of a toyota truck. Not that you should go buy the truck but when people say "Lol member that one WoW commercial? Funny shit". I don't know why the ways of marketing needs to explained to you but apparently it does. Thanks, but I am not arguing this anymore, I am putting statistics to good use.
The problem here is you spoke on the commercial as your point of view. But based on your opinion and point of view caused me to be more interested in the topic and do a little snoooooping around to see what I may find.
I guess, luckily for me, there are several sources to pick from to form a opposite point of view and opinion, not for arguing or disagreeing with you, but based on the surveys found, thats just the direction it went in.
There is statistical information that you can use to build a more solid point instead of just saying, "Apparently they thought it would be wise to invest however many thousands of dollars they did to make a commercial that marketed a product to the wrong audience."
Once looking over the information it seemed logical that the people at Toyota, the #2 automaker in the world (who will most likely beat GM by 2009), with a fiscal profit in March of 1.37 trillion yen ($12.3 billion) and expected to profit more than 51.7 billion by the end of 2007, I think they kinda know what the hell they are doing.
They pay their guys 75,000+ a year to do these research probes, survey, consensus and analyze the best outcome for the business, it just seems rather radical for a nobody to come out and bash them for a wonderful attempt and probably a very successful ad campaign. And I dont mean nobody like you need to take offense, hell in this situation we are all nobodies in their business unless our name is Fujio Cho.
My original response to this thread should have actually been, "Toyota seems to get what it takes to get people to know your brand; connect with them. How cool is it that they not only made a commercial about World of Warcraft, but put their product in as part of the game? I don’t play the game, but if I did I could understand how cool it must feel. Now Toyota needs to figure out how to make people turn those WoW subscription fees into actual car payments." but it wasn't.
----
As for this, (the same way there are no reliable "average penis size" surveys, because guys who think they have small penises usually don't participate.) Where did you get that information at? I am not asking to fight with you, but do you know all the small penis men in the world, are you part of a club? Do they have a web page? Did they send a memo titled, "Why penis surveys are wrong!". Seems to me that this is another logical observation based on what? YOUR small penis and the fact that YOU turned down a penis survey? When in fact what you just said is an opinon, right?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:opinion&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title
So, thanks for the debate in smarts, you are a sthuper smart person, and yes, it does help me sleep at night. (Aggressive even when you dont think you are).

Why am I not surprised? I present a perfectly logical argument and every point is completely and stubbornly ignored, and once again I am attacked personally. It's sad, really. Actually, it's not. It's fucking hilarious. You people and your poorly thought attacks actually make me laugh. Nate, the pure absence of substance in your posts and direct reliance on personal attacks is pitiful. This is why I think you are a drooling neanderthal. By the way, I'm loving how you say that "I start shit" when your butt-buddy whoopsie here was the one that decided to be argumentative. Never a stickler for details, are you? As for you, whoopsie, your naïvité is delightful. Of course I included the average penis size phenomena (which is widely recognized by statisticians and physicians alike) because I knew some dumbass (why did it have to be you?) would try to spin it on me, thinking it was original and funny. Trust me, I'm laughing. What disturbs me however is the fact that despite being faced with perfectly logical arguments, you rely on citing irrelevant data and beating your chest over it. Toyota made 1.37 trillion yen? Wow, that's fucking amazing. There's plenty of corporations who make more than enough to fund national ad campaigns that have failed horribly in the past. Fail, AIDS, gb2wikipedia, etc.
