it seems to me that when it is made public that racism and gay bashing is not tolerated is when more and more assholes come out from the woodwork just to try to push buttons. The general "don't be an ass rule" seems sufficient. You don't have to pay to much attention to notice if someone is being a complete douchbag for a while. Everyone has a asshat moment or two here and there, but if someone is relentlessly offending people than its time to dust off ol' booty. I think stating that our number one rule should be a guide."Don't be a dick". I think a set of rules is needed and enforced when the abuse becomes excessive. Let me give you an example. I requested that a player be banned a few weeks ago, but he would not fall into the race, or any other offensives stated in this thread. Yet after repeated warnings, the player continued saying things like," I have a real gun and I will hunt you down and kill you" or kept saying that he was going to rape one of the players mom.
I think we start with a simple warning and progressively escalate the penalty. In the end, it's the administrators and members that will determine the type of behavior that will be tolerated, and some type of guidelines will help us determine what is and what's not acceptable.

A few days ago some d-bag came on and every time he got demo killed he would yell out "Nigger'd Again"! It was really starting to piss me off cuz everyone else started in on the racist bandwagon after that. It would have been easy (if i had admin) to kick that fool out saying no more racial slurs and it would have snuffed it all out then but all i could do is threaten to get someone which as everyone knows just makes you look like a snitch with not real power cept to be the bitch to the big boys. But, because i was the one who was trying to stop the racism, and i didnt have any real power to stop it, they tried to turn on me!
Ever since duane the Dog chapman turned out racist, i see all the white trash wannabe bounty hunters (who seem to love TF2) coming out of the woodwork and theyre buddies egg em on. I think a stance against racism should be taken on the servers. Not zero tolerance but at least let people know that if they keep up the crap, they will lose the privilege of playing on the best servers of TF2.
By the way, I thought racism was on the decline. Are people still caught up on racial divides? its almost 2010; yanno... that future we've been waiting for? and we're still talking shit on people for shit they shouldn't be talked shit on for. Stupid effing racists are so gawl damned ignorant.... Its the character of the person that really matters, not the color of their skin or the religion they follow, and i feel people who act out against people for their race or religion should have their character discriminated against and tossed out of the servers.
Gay bashing sucks too... but its hard not calling someone who front back-stabbed you a fag... so... yea...

I think a "Don't be a dick/jerk/annoyance/ect" rule is more appropriate on the server. I also think a /votemute system should be implemented as sure racism and gay bashing is bad, how ever no one there is being offended. If they are being offended, they should say something and perhaps that alone would end it. If not, /votemute or contact an administrator to report it as bullying as the person refused to stop the racism/gay bashing fully knowing that it offends them. A "Don't be a racist. Don't be a gay basher." turns Christians away as by default, indulged Christians are both when, all they want to do is game. I was honestly laughing out loud when people were blurting out "Niggar" in certain situations and saw no retaliation from anyone. Thus, it increased and more people laughed and even others started too. Then it died down about ten minutes later. If I were an administrator I'd ask if anyone was being offended, if someone replied with a "yes" then I'd request(to stop)/mute the offender. Otherwise, it may incite more fun and laughter server-wide.

I'm not saying we should not allow racists or Christians to play, just that if they start spouting off their hate we should ask them to tone it down and if they don't we should kick them. If people want to engage in actual discourse about race or homophobia or whatever they can come here and rumble, but calling people niggers and faggots on our TF2 servers is fucked up and stupid and makes people feel unwelcome. I do agree that "don't be a dick" covers racism and whatnot, I just think it would be good to make what constitutes dickishness more explicit (dicks often don't know they are dicks), especially when it comes to harassing and mocking people for their race, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
