What's with the reduction of points. I get killed, I lose 20+ points, I kill, I get 1 point. I used to get 5 points for headshot kill, now I get 0. Assist kills are now 2, which I can understand. But i lose points with a greatly positive score because I was killed twice by someone with more than 500 initial kills.

Since youngrippark opened the door, I have to ask as well. Have further changes been made to the point distribution system without asking or notifying the community?

Just as with the reset of the admin privileges, this may have been without WDF?'s knowledge, but I've also noticed lately the same harsh penalties almost whenever I die to someone (with a loss of up to 50 points per death not being uncommon). I realize the 500 kill minimum may still be in effect, but I think, even if nothing else has been changed, as the number or semi-regular players with > 500 kills increases (currently 367 players have met that), we will increasingly return to the original problem I outlined in my initial comments: when players feel like they are going to lose far more points by playing anything but conservatively (medic, engineer, maybe sniper; anything that keeps them from dying as often), the point system is going to increasingly dictate which classes they play, regardless of the needs of the team.

If that is indeed the case, I'd once again advocate for an alteration of how Victim Points are subtracted, either reducing the penalty for dying while still awarding the Killer full points, or doing away with the death penalties altogether.

Well put.
I think the 500 kills is a little steep, though.
When I started just a few short weeks ago I think it was at 200 and I was thrilled to meet the requirements. 500 is a lot of kills, though. Also, if reduced down to 200, it gives people a better opportunity to catch up to the lower ranks and make the points more equal.

This'll be my first official rant on the forums.

Screw it, this shit pisses me off.... the point system doesn't just discourage playing certain ways or certain classes, it discourages people from playing AT ALL! Whether WDF? lowered the points for kill assists and building construction or whatever, the current situation means I can kill dozens of people, but I still lose far FAR more points when I die. There was a time where losing 20-30 points "hurt." Now it's the norm, and losing up to 50 per death isn't uncommon! I'm sorry, but no player is so good they can kill 50 people for every 1 death they have, the game's just not built that way. I've tried every "conservative" play style I can... sniping inside the base, engineer inside the base, even as engineer in the intel room on 2fort, and nothing offsets that kind of loss. The result, whether you intend it to be that way or not, is I cease to want to play.

Things are a LITTLE better on the rotating servers like #1, where relatively frequent team victories and point captures give you (very appropriately) decent infusions of 25 to 75 points, but there is NO reason for me to play on #2, where players sit all day, got their 500 kills long ago, and every time you die it's pain. I actually got auto-balanced once today when I was killed, and I heard players on the other team wowing at the points they were taking from me and wanting to figure out what class I was playing so they could hunt me down! Now, from the Killer perspective, we have it perfectly incentivized: players are encouraged to take down highly ranked players because it helps the team, but from the Victim perspective it's ALL WRONG. It's to the point it actively discourages me from wanting to play. I've toyed with the notion a couple times of just going to play on other servers when I want to actually have fun, and only come to Tempest during the full evenings where I can be more likely to not lose so many points. But what's the point in logging in on a saturday afternoon for a little relaxing 2fort when no matter how well you do, when you die, you're losing your shirt?

Call it fine, call me a whiner, that's your opinion, but I'm just telling you how the current point system makes its more highly ranked players feel, and if you think all it does is affect which class they choose, boy are you wrong.

</rant>

The new values are defiantly driving people away from playing classes. Today on server 2 no one wanted to be a medic cause they were always losing points even on good runs. There was a lot more camping inside the bases by both teams cause a lot of people didn't want to risk losing a lot of points (there was a decent number of us that were high ranked playing earlier).  The way it was before with the old point values, sure you had people try and abuse it for the assist kills but at least there wasn't a problem getting a handful of medics and people would play a lot more offensively.

That's my only complaint though, otherwise I love the server and will be donating to support it and cause I don't like waiting to log on :)

on a side note, whenever there is a stalemate everyone should loose 100 points

yes, because in 2fort, a lot of the higher up players only need 100 kills to make up for it.

That's it, I give up till it's fixed. This is pointless.

No, but it's a world of difference psychologically playing on a server where I'm not constantly fearing the stray bullet of a relative newcomer that just happened to hit 500 kills.
