OMG this sound fuggin awsome, lol will bring a whole new aspect to they game.   I like the idea of slight health increase that gets transfered to the creature slayer after pwning him.

We'll definitely have a wdfnews locked server event to test this thing before unleashing it. That way people can see how it works.

Seconded. Messing with health and speed is messing with the core mechanics of TF2's gameplay.

@daniel, I wasn't actually suggesting that we handicap the top5. That would also be messing with that core gameplay.

However, the hlstats system is entirely separate from the gameplay itself and so can be changed with less impact.

Ok, so we should just leave it at bonus points for killing them?

I like the fun idea of having creatures being superpowered. After all, everyone will start ganging up on them if they see a big sign over their heads, and hear their entrance and everything. I think this "change" in mechanics is a welcome one. Some servers have party mods, 2X crit shots. People come in and play that all the time. I do think we should have a regular mechanics server or something. But Tempests should be known for something unique, and I think this will draw in new blood.

Just avoid extremes. Something minor. ex 15 extra health is a big difference,  but not exactly gamebreaking either.

The plan was a 5 or 10% increase is all.

I like the idea, but since you're going for a test run, why not gather a few ideas (E.G. you're original in post #1, and then a couple other ideas (increased HP only, etc.) and test them on the same day / subsequent days and find out which plays out best?

I'd be against it just on principle.  Close fights would now go to the higher ranked because of that extra health and once some other people move top 5, all these buffs would do would help them stats-whore better if they cared that much about their rank and if that was what they wanted to do.  It's hard enough to kill a stats-whore in TF2, don't make it harder.  While it needs to change so that more people have a chance to shoot for the top 5, I don;t think that giving them buffs is the answer.  Maybe some sort of scaling point system so that those with higher points make more points off people in the top 5.  It may work out that this will just seperate those with higher points from everyone else, but perhaps giving full point per kill to anyone within 10% of their total point or something if that were possible.  That would allow those who were close to being near the top to exclusively hunt those top players and the point bonus would allow some turnover at the top, but the top players also wouldn't have to worry too much about losing massive points to those who are lower down the chain, outside of normal?

I don't like the stat increase for the Whales either.  It will frustrate players and make them feel like we are protecting the top 10 more than anything.  OH boy i get 100 points for killing leon....too bad it never happens because now the guy is stronger, faster, etc.  It just comes across as protectionist and elitism that is trying to hide out behind  "there is a chance out there for the little guy".

If you want proof...just look how all the top 5-10 players are supporting this 100% and all the middle of the field guys, who this claims to be helping... are against it.  Seems a little illogical, no?

Any gain in HP alone can give a significant advantage to better players.  Even if it is just 5-10%.  Hell I would forfeit the extra points for 15 extra health anyday!  Think about how many times in a close fight you would have just needed those 15-20 extra health points to come out on top.

If your aim is to truly shake up the top, then just make the top 5 lose 150 points every time a person within the top 50 kills them.  I think that would even the point field more.

What happens when a creature kills a creature?

Can you make it so the highest ranking person on at the time is the creature?  Otherwise, it will only be from 7pm-11pm central that the creature kill is worth anything.

What happens if the creature decides to turtle it up and not come out and plaaaaaaaay?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Then he risks losing his slot as others close the gap due to his inactivity.

I think it would be a hoot and a challenge to be the creature.  I'll volunteer to do it first-- no extra health or anything needed.  Everyone is already trying to kill me as medic first as it is, so I probably won't notice much of a difference.  Just don't turn off friendly fire protection so I don't have to go hide in a corner somewhere away from my own team.

Go ahead and erase my stats i dont give a fuck.
I'm supporting it because people are suggesting something to spice up the game a little, to make it more FUN and UNIQUE.

And you guys are getting so caught up in the imbalance on '1v1s' or w/e, don't forget its a public server and you can't fucking do shit with 10 more health, specially since about 98% of the time you are fighting 2,3,4,5 guys at a time, so dont get too horny over that problem.

And the whole point thing, losing a 150 or w/e would just make the 'top 5' turtle constantly (ex. playing on 2fort i've gotten 150 kills and died maybe 30-40 times and if im lucky ill be like +56 points), btw half the guys that in the middle point area or top 5 only got there by playing capping maps. (which is why as a demo or w/e i am im always offense, going for caps and rushing)

The top 5 will not lose any extra points if killed. The killer, however, will gain what I call "Server Points" which are simply added to the system.
