Quote: We'll be doing some work to educate players on the new Custom servers tab, using both PR and user interface changes. Now that the Internet/Custom servers system is in place, we'd like server admin to work within it. We'll be delisting servers with custom rule sets that deliberately work around the system.
We all should have seen this coming when they delisted our hl2mp servers and lied about it, telling us "they didn't delist anything." We will be returning to the custom tab today. I expect we'll see another massive drop in player count. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660950 for more information, as well as a fairly heated debate.

Yeah, we could go back to standard settings. This would mean we'd end up with 20 second respawns again.

I don't like it. That custom server tab was intorduced right when I reformatted and reinstalled TF2. I went to the first tab, not noticing the new tab, and couldn't find any of The Tempest servers. I had to come here and get the IPs to find some and others I just joined off of my friends' list. A filter seems like a way to make everyone happy. I don't think an experiment is even needed. It already happened. #1 was FULL at 5cen time. I haven't seen that in a LONG time and miss it. I would be upset if you stopped hosting TF2, but understand the problem.

How about having just one of the servers vanilla and keeping the others custom? When I first stumbled into the Tempest servers, It didn't take me long to see you had several different servers and to add ALL of them to my favorites list. That would allow new players on the servers to find out about Tempest and maintain custom settings for those that prefer them.
ACT III
SCENE I. Before PROSPERO'S Cell.
Enter FERDINAND, bearing a log FERDINAND There be some sports are painful, and their labour Delight in them sets off: some kinds of baseness Are nobly undergone and most poor matters Point to rich ends. This my mean task Would be as heavy to me as odious, but The mistress which I serve quickens what's dead And makes my labours pleasures "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"

I really dont know what Valve has been smoking over the past 2 weeks. Firs tthe uneeded nerfs for demo and soldier and now this? This is rubbish. They should have left everything as it was. When there was one tab it was easy to navigate and I could easily read if a server was custom or not. Now they've got filters that will do nothing but dilute the player base between the two. Most people will just use the initial tab to pick a server and thus our player count will drop again....Seriously it was fine as it was. Custom servers advertised if they were custom. The only way I can feasbily see someone supporting this is if they dont want to read descriptions. Are people that lazy that they need a seperate tab so they dont have to read? Edit: Oh and btw what exactly constitutes vanilla? Is If we can keep the player count up to 32 and the only problem is the respawn I say vanilla it. But yes clarification on what vanilla means. I'm the leetest one here

True it sucks to wait, but really its only 20 secs! We are all just impatient. The delayed respawn helps keep the bottlenecks down. With instant respawn on a 24-32 players its impossible at times. The team that dies more gets punished more.

Anything over 24 players is considered custom.
