Since is #1 go with Tempest #1 and list the other servers in the intro pages, if people like they will add to favorites.  I really dont know much about this update, I read the forum post whut you listed but hey shit happens.

there are lots of other games that can be hosted. if they want to fuck themselves let them, i know im going to tell everyone i know what they have done and not to buy tf2 or anything else that i valve related ill let it hit them in the pocket book. They will lose lots of players and then just go down. People will get board of the stock settings and want something new and different and yet there will be nothing for them to play but stock and then kill off the rest of the players and that will make the death of tf2.

And with the nerfing of stuff they are just trying to kill it. Its Just all the noobs getting tired of getting owned on the custom servers they want to play with other noobs cuz they can not play with the leet players so the bitch to valve about getting owed and how they suck at they game, and wanting stuff changed to make them look like they are a better player than they really are. If i remember right when hl2 dm was big the number 1 server out there was the crypt then the tomb and by the new rules they would be custom and and moved.

All the other server ops  that are not running "custom" servers don't have a problem with this, of course not, because now people are now going to there servers and getting some traffic as before there were getting little to non at all. If anyone wants t take any part of this and post it on the valve forums do so as you please. I have no idea if anything i have said in this post has been said in the forums its not worth my time to read about them sinking tf2, but if anyone wants to use anything use it with my blessing.

Didn't someone post somewhere about TF2 getting a new update where valve finally caved in and added additional slots to the 24? If so and they de-list the servers then the updated would basically be worthless.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not...it is deviding the community.

When they list a server as "custom" it will scare away people who might actually like the way the server plays.  I have never seen anyone who didn't like the way  "our" servers play.  Maybe there were some who just left because they didn't, but that is the way it goes.  But the larger point is that servers that tweak one thing such as respawn times or max players are going to be sent to a "second rate" tab and I'm betting all servers on that "Custom" tab will see a loss of traffic.

What they are really saying by saying they want new users to get used to the vanilla settings is that custom server are too hard for you and you aren't ready for it yet. 

FILTER FILTER FILTER.  That is what they needed to do.  How many new users and users that just don't care to read the update news because its usually schilling a new product won't even notice the "Custom" tab, and if they do just overlook it.  <raises hand>  The "Internet" tab (and Custom) have filters already, but instead of enhancing the existing set of filters they just segregated a whole (and large) part of the community.

Even if they don't want to enhance the filter options the titles of the tabs are a bad way to word it.  What does "Custom" mean to the new users?  Custom maps? No, that's not it.  What does "Internet" mean to the new user?  All the servers available on the internet?  No that's not it.  Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they could word it differently...Default / Not Default seems alot more clear.

Its not even working.  A good number of no/short respawns are still listed.   Maybe they haven't gotten that far to enforce it yet but every server I have gone into I knew what I was getting myself into.  If I didn't like it...you know what...I left.  I didn't sit here and complain that I was tricked.

Proof is in the pudding.  When the server was listed in the the "Internet" tab=servers full.   When server was listed in the "Custom" tab=servers empty.  Sure, a if a good number of regulars got on one, it would fill up a little, but NOTHING like I had seen when listed in the "Internet" tab.

I think that the ones saying that the custom server operators are just upset because their traffic is thinning out are simply endorsing this change because their server will see more traffic. It seems a little elitist to think that the default way of playing is the best and the way most people want to play.  Sure Valve has a right to do it, but we have a right to debate whether or not it was a good change too. 

I understand the other point of view too about people who actually want the default way of playing only.  There would be some reading that would be involved to figure out what a server name means, but the solution isn't to "banish" servers that do label themselves to a tab where they might get half the traffic they used to.

My gripe is why do we custom servers have to be segregated to some 2nd position tab, like our tastes in gaming are inferior?
