I'm going to put these arguments to rest.
Besides the runes and what you want to come of this, it is simply an advertisement for Wrath of the Lich King. Not only does the ice give it away, but simply look at the eyes of the beast.

Blizzard Teaser Watch, Day Four
Mysterious art is once again linked to Diablo.
June 26, 2008 - In the past three consecutive days, Blizzard's new mysterious art piece has been linked to all of its major franchises--Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft--by various sites. It is now day four, and Blizzard's official site has once again updated its artwork to include ominous eyes in the background. Our friends at Voodoo Extreme were able to link these beady eyes to the Dark Wanderer from Diablo II.
 It feels like someone's staring at me.
 Could this be the Dark Wanderer?
As you will notice, the image and the eyes on the Diablo II box art over lap conveniently. In addition, the outline of the Dark Wanderer makes sense in the context of the image. Notice how his right shoulder slopes down to meet the ice. Above his head, the hood appears to draw itself from the cracks of the ice.  What game is this from?
In addition to the eyes, a new rune towards the bottom right of the image has been released. It looks like planets orbiting around a galaxy. No concrete ties have been made to this rune yet, but hopefully Blizzard will blow down the speculation doors when its 2008 Worldwide Invitational takes place this weekend in Paris. Way to cause a massive guessing game on the internet Blizzard. They even tried to fool us by putting the link up on the World of Warcraft site. Needless to say I will be leading the herd to get this game. GO TO GAMESPOT AND WATCH THE 20 MINUTE VIDEO. Every second there was something that made me say, "Oh wow!"
