Quote:
A secret order issued by George Bush giving US special forces carte blanche to mount counter-terrorist operations inside Pakistani territory raised fears last night that escalating conflict was spreading from Afghanistan to Pakistan and could ignite a region-wide war.
The unprecedented executive order, signed by Bush in July after an intense internal administration debate, comes amid western concern that the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and its al-Qaida backers based in "safe havens" in western Pakistan's tribal belt is being lost.
Following Bush's decision, US navy Seals commandos, backed by attack helicopters, launched a ground raid into Pakistan last week which the US claimed killed about two dozen insurgents. Pakistani officials condemned the raid as illegal and said most of the dead were civilians. US and Nato commanders are anxious to halt infiltration across the Afghanistan-Pakistan border of insurgents and weapons blamed for casualties among coalition troops. The killing of a US soldier in eastern Afghanistan yesterday brought American losses in 2008 to 112, the deadliest year since the 2001 intervention. The move is regarded as unprecedented in terms of sending troops into a friendly, allied country... [read more, click link above]
I was watching the history channel the other day (9/11) . They had a special on ground zero videos....It reminded me of how angry americans were...how outraged that we were attacked and how we needed to get retribution to those responsible. There were no democrats, republicans, green party, ...there were just american citizens wanting to hold the attacker responsible for the death and destruction they wrought.
That passion and emotion are all but gone now. Time and a distracting war have taken the fire out of your hearts...you have forgotten. 7 years ago....if pakistan had al-quida cells hiding in its hills....99% of you wouldnt have batted an eyelash at special forces or drones attacking camps...even if there was collateral damage because those fucking pigs hide behind thier women and children. Those cowards set up death training camps inside elementary schools and hospitals.
Bush made wrong in iraq...that most ppl agree upon. But now you are so clouded by your disapproval you attack any action...even action that sets us back upon the path of tracking down Bin Laden, and eliminating Al-Quida. The organization is rearming--reestablishing power....hiding in pakistan because the government there can't or won't get rid of them. They are using the country as a staging ground for sorties (ideological and military) into afganistan.
Do yourself a favor and go watch the fucking towers burn again....watch people jump from teh buildings and watch them fall to the ground. Go watch video of brave ny firemen walking to thier deaths...look at each of thier faces as they walk past the camera. Don't let time and complacency lose the war against alquida. Don't be a coward and look backwards and criticize the actions taken int he right direction.... Bin laden may be in that hill in pakistan....and yet you Cry out: No!
You criticize for selfish party reasons now...its pathetic and unpatriotic. Shame on you.....selfish....the same people who will criticise Obama or McCain in 4 years when we get hit with another attack and the people Cry: WHY! WHy didnt we stop this before it happened? and it will be because cowards called for a halt to bringing murderers to justice.
So go watch teh towers fall again....and then go cuddle a terrorist or worry about pre-emptive action.
Your post is pretty good, but you have some sentiment wrong, I think. First, it isn't chasing Bin Laden that has us upset. It's by the means Bush does it. He gave Bin Laden (The Bin Laden group having given millions to Bush and the Bath party for years) a two month head start. Then he sends inadequate forces into Afghanistan to "get Bush". Riiiight. Like he is trying? At one time, it was said there were more cops in New York alone than in all of Afghanistan.
Pakistan did not attack us on 9/11. It was a saudi arabian (a country we give upwards of 700 billion dollars a year is it for oil?) who worked out of and fled to Afghanistan. Sure, he might be in Pakistan NOW, but then we don't really know. We DID know, but Bush let him get away. At the time, Bin Laden had no place to go. We had the world behind us and their sympathy. But Bush decided to attack a sovereign nation that posed no threat to the US. In doing so, we lost world support. Except the brits. The guy who supported us, Tony Blair, lost his job, and so should have Bush. Sure, there are a few countries with some troops there -- mostly to babysit us, or as a part of the UN treaty. But nobody wants to be there. We have the majority of troops there and have accepted most of the casualties and the cost of the war. Far greater tolls than 9/11 was. For the record, Bush has killed far more people than Bin Laden has.
We let the guy who attacked the US on 9/11 get away. Then we attack a country in pretty much the same fashion Bin Laden attacked us -- using airplanes and killing innocent people. Each one of the 20 or 25 people we killed in Pakistan is going to breed tenfold amount of people that hate us, and each one of those has a chance to be the next islamic extremist hell bent on our destruction. Each one a chance to be the next OBL.
The idea here is not to keep pissing off other countries. At one time, Bin Laden was such a hot potato, no country wanted him! He had to flee his own homeland and find refuge in Afghanistan, because his own country would have given him up! Now, nobody cares to help us. They think we deserve it. Why? The Bush Doctrine.
The same doctrine Palin knows NOTHING ABOUT! I could post (probably have on another post, if you bother to look) the interview where she is asked about the doctrine three (I think?) times, and gives a wrong answer, and evasive answer and the the same answer again as if it makes her look smart. Or Presidential. She also manages to say how she would go to war with Russia and Iran even though her running mate, McCain said he would NOT go to war with Russia. Do you honestly think she is a good choice? Or our course of action, threatening countries, attacking as we see fit... INVADING and KILLING INNOCENTS makes us better than Bin Laden or going to help us catch him or gain world favor?
We had a chance to get Bin Laden before 9/11. The Republicans fought Clinton on it and he admittedly failed. But he tried. Bush had 8 months after taking office, and he did nothing. He was even given a document titled "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States" and what did Bush do? He went on vacation. For the record, Bush has surpassed the longest vaction time of any President while in office. Previous record held by Reagan. Yet some people wonder why I cannot stand to have another politician in office.
You question MY patriotism and then say shame on ME? It was me you were talking to? Or Business? Both? Shame on YOU! People who look blindly by and not see what is happening to our country -- not recognizing it being torn apart by Bush and McCain. I spend so many hours a day researching, watching, reading whatever I can about politics and what is going on in the world. Look at the times of my posts. I don't sleep. Why? I am so fucking worried about the state we are in. The world. The direction this country is heading. It's scary.
If you were half as patriotic as I am, you would do what you could to defeat evil -- BUSH! You would do whatever you could to see his policies die when he leaves office, and not more of the same with McCain. Shame on YOU for not being a responsible and patriotic American to do something about it. Do something before we are in world war 3 with Iraq, Iran, Russia, China, North Korea and now Pakistan. But maybe that's what we need to do. That way you can feel more patriotic. If you support John McCain and/or George W. Bush, please click here.“I would like to say to Milton and Anna: Regarding the Great Depression. You're right, we did it. We're very sorry. But thanks to you, we won't do it again.” - Ben Bernanke

I will only chime in to say Giller, that we are only making more enemies with this Pakistan thing. They are pissed that we are making military moves inside their borders, not to mention that we blew up their women and kids. We are making more friends for our enemies by doing things this way. I believe we need to start thinking about the long term implications of our actions. Let me ask you a serious question, do you believe that when we capture OBL, that the al-qaeda network will just tumble like a house of cards? That the war on terror will just end in a victorious win? Hindsight is 20/20, and we've had seven years now to look at our actions. We have done more for them, then they ever could have by themselves, to grow their organization. Think about it. I think we ABSOLUTELY need to be talking about what we are doing militarily, and looking at the ramifications it might have. That's all I will say about that. You wanna take this to Fuck Town? Oh gadzooks, yes!

I think we ABSOLUTELY need to be talking about what we are doing militarily, and looking at the ramifications it might have. That's all I will say about that. We've had longer than that. Our involvement in the Gulf War started putting us on their shit lists and while that was an international effort and something I believe we needed to do, we should never have set up military bases in Saudi Arabia. Even if their government consented then, it was blatantly obvious our presence would have alienated the locals. And indeed, Bin Laden himself has stated that as a reason for his actions against us. Us pulling out of Saudi Arabia recently is one of the best moves we've made in the War on Terror but anything gained from that is quickly being lost with this Pakistan thing. EDIT: Oh yeah. Just read about this shit. A CIA-ordered strike killed 13-18 Pakistani civilians. Can you imagine what we would do if a foreign government authorized a strike within US borders that killed 13-18 American civilians? Pakistani response to this is downright subtle - probably since they know there's not much they can do against us. The problem is, as other people in the region realize this, general animosity against us will increase. And if they can't fight us through conventional warfare, guess what the alternative is...

Blown way out of proportion. So basically we are just supposed to believe anything the villagers say. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote: Hopefully it doesn't blow up. Pakistan is one of the few friends we have in the area. If we alienate them now it will make it that much easier for terrorist networks to recruit out of that country. And the more we offend Pakistani civilians, the more they'll start looking the other way regarding terrorists within their borders. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, after all. And I didn't realize the body count for the prior strike was now 20+...

Well it's a bit like the boy who cried wolf at this point. Pentagon continually says things happened one way, reporters go out there and document things that show it happened another way. Then Pentagon says "well, it didn't happen exactly like we said". Do you think the Pakistani military is so incompetent that they can't fire some shots at a helicopter? Or that they love the US so much that they wouldn't do something like this? Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I dunno. 50 years is a long time in this age, considering it just takes a moment to launch.
But people have wanted to see the US get a taste of their own medicine since we nuked Japan. Twice.
Then also consider Israel. That would be my guess. Pakistan has nukes and they are just too close to Iran, Syria.

Consider it's over a 50 yr period. But I would think Israel gets it first, as stated.
