Are you drunk? You are blaming domestic problems in other countries on US foreign policy. You are completely way off target on this one. Agreed, we did rebuild both Japan and Germany following WWII, but their domestic policy on gun control is completely different than ours. Concurrently it is of their own doing. My point is this, they are far more strict than we are and yet the same thing happened there. You seriously need to think about what you say before saying it. Even with your comments considered about us having a hand in their reconstruction, this still does not explain Scotland and it certainly does not explain the events in counties I did not mention. For example: the massive shooting in Tasmania in 1996, the Beslan massacre in 2004, the shootings in Montreal last year, the hostage situation in the Philippines last month, Etc. Before you respond, you need to first understand my point. It happens everywhere not just the US and not because of US foreign policy. All the countries have different levels of gun control from strict to not strict and yet it still happens. I've spent my entire college career studying Europe and part of it living there. I know what you're saying isn't your own opinion, but that of Europeans on the whole and its an uneducated, bullshit position to take. I know the trend right now is to hate America but that doesn't mean you should throw rationality out the window with the rest of them. come back here again watch some TV. see how much American media/culture/economic values has had a hand in creating modern European culture. it's not just foreign policy, that's just part of it. your foreign policy since WWII has largely been to be getting other countries to subscribe to your economic values and crap as well as, particularly in the case of third world countries, exploitation. now more than ever, after socialism has been severely damaged by your more competative systems, American culture has helped create a new global mono culture evident in/underlying most western societies. and in the case of Beslan, that's entirely different. it's not just a school kid going after his peers. its motivations are largely different as similarly grusome it is. they rest of the examples you mention ii know very little about. whether you accept or not, America has had huge role in shaping the cultures of the rest of the world in recent years. i listen to American music, i see American shows, i learn American economic principles (largely). i wear fashions largely exported by America. you cannot deny this. and as for the "are you drunk" comment. how do you think i'd come around to your way of thinking if you personally attack me. I hear American's critize/mock other cultures all the time. why can't you handle what you dish out? Irish students in VT have been on the media here too. the first thing they mentioned aside from the usual "it's glad to be alive"? how completely insane the gun culture is there. you guys should at least consider what we are saying, much like we consider (and larely accept) your input on our own society. otherwise, you're even more narrow minded than you're portraying me out to be. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

Bullshit. In 2002, a youth did the same thing in Erfurt, Germany. He walked into a school and killed 16 people before killing himself. In 1996, a guy in Dunblane, Scotland walked into a school and killed 16 students and a teacher before killing himself. Finally (abit in Asia), a Japanese guy went on a stabbing spree in 2001 killing 8 children. I don't know much about Scotland, but both Germany and Japan have very strict policies on gun control. It can happen anywhere just as easily so shut it with the Eurocentric American-Cowboy comments. Its a global problem, not just ours. well, fair enough, but seeing as all those countries you mention are western/1st world liberal capitalist democracies largely shaped by values exported by the U.S. here, then i think there is still a good argument that the U.S. is the root of the cause. hate me for it, but your Marshall plan and multinationals contributed in the societies produced in our countries. I'd like to refer back to my previous post about how this incident is not necessarily evidence of Why America Sucks. The thousands of gun deaths a year that you don't hear about because they happen in thousands of separat instances ARE evidence though. It's those deaths that would be prevented by a more sane gun policy. And it's the dysfunctional culture which produces so many people willing to kill that America is exporting via corporate globalization. Obviously it's not America's fault that people around the world flip out and kill people (Beslan and the Phillipines are pretty poor examples by the way). Nothing can stop someone who wants to kill people from doing it, but American culture produces more people who want to kill and American gun policy provides easier access to the preferred means of doing it. Compare death by gun per capita in the US, that's the real measure. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

You can ignore examples you think are bad like Beslan and the Phillipines because the point still remains and is proven by other examples mentioned or unmentioned. It happens everywhere and is not a product of evil America. Now, the fact that we have a bunch of unstable people in this country is true. We have tons, thats not what I'm arguing. As proven with the other examples given, even if we did have tighter gun control, these things would still happen. get your ass to mars

(8stabbings in Japan, imagine the amount he could have killed if he were carrying an automatic weapon as opposed to a manual non-projectile one. a hypothetical argument, but i feel it's worth consideration). the only way you can consider Beslan similar to this event is in it's gruesomeness and callousness. it's motivations were entirely different (a terrorist organisation with a clearly defined aim as opposed to a single student with a disturbed mind). who it was perputrated against was entirely different (victims in Beslan were perceived as being from the enemy culture or what have you, as opposed to the shooter who killed HIS OWN PEERS). Beslan was largely one society against another, this guy killed in cold blood from his own subgroup, in his own environment, obviously without any remorse. very different actions, equally disturbing and evidence of flaws WITHIN a society, as opposed opposed to conflict between. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

This is exactly my point. American society is particularly violent, more violent than any other developed nation. Americans have easier access to guns than nearly anyone else on earth (possibly even everyone else, I remember even in highschool I could have gotten a gun within an hour or two if I ever wanted one). Gun violence in America is thus significantly more common. That isn't to say that gun violence can not or does not happen elsewhere, or that when it does happen other places it is the fault of America (even if American culture may have played a role in influencing it). If we had tighter gun control these things would still happen, they just wouldn't happen as frequently. We wouldn't have the highest murder rate per capita of any developed nation, or at least if we did we wouldn't be so hugely in the "lead". Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

A very tragic event indeed and also could have happened anywhere in the world no matter what, if your looking to nut up and go shit crazy you will find a way. The point is that it DID happen so my thoughts go out to the friends and families of all the lives cut short due to an off-balanced individual. Being a college student i understand how those rooms are and it would be like fish in a barrel and it would take an absolutely ruthless killer to just swing open a door and start firing on innocent people.

He was fucked up. Crazy. You can't really understand that. It just is. I think what they are trying to do is trying to understand this crazy person as if they were in his shoes with they way they think. Can't be done. Reality for people like that is separate from the rest of the world. The exercise is "what would make me go nuts and shoot a bunch of people?" The kicker is most people are not nuts. There's no real way to put yourself in his shoes. You're normal, more or less. MSNBC probably should have thought it out before releasing the vids of the guy. However, you know damn well that if the tapes were sent to another network, they would have done the same thing. Now other networks are coming down on MSNBC when they would have done the exact same thing. And, while I'm certain you know someone, who knows someone who has a connection to Virginia Tech, like the Columbine incident, there's really nothing you can do. Profiles? How do you profile a crazy person? And folks are getting all butt-hurt about anyone who is not sobbing at the the slightest mention of Virginia Tech. Come on. Was it tragic? Yes. Is it sad? Yes. However, I'm not one to dwell on something on the other side of the country that stopped being a threat the moment the guy popped himself in the head. End of story. If you want to grieve, by all means, do. But I can't stand it when I'm at an official function and made to take a moment of silence. One is fine, but not every one I go to. Shit, I don't feel I need to grieve with you. Leave me out of it. And if you're one of the family members or friends of the students involved, why the fuck do you want to go on television to say you feel like shit. Shit, feel like shit in private. Or if you're going to insist on wearing your heart on your sleeve, don't expect me to go along with it. It's just a bummer. LOL. Then these same people blame the media for glorifying the gunman with all the coverage of his materials. Video games did not make this person violent. Guns did not make this person violent. Although, if he did not purchase these things legally, he could have driven into a bad part of town and purchased some. Not a problem. No, this guy planned it out, lied on the gun application - didn't someone think this would be a possibility? Heck, he could have stolen the damn guns. It doesn't matter where he got them. The operative fact in all this is the guy was CRAZY! By definition he was unpredictable. So, it's too bad those people died. The media will stop covering it when people stop watching, and you don't have to watch if you don't want to. I just think I should be able to opt out of all this. People are way too serious about something which is no longer a threat. And, I used the name Ismail Ax on the Nemisis server and was banned! No warning, just a kicked and banned. LOL. Hax doesn't seem to have a problem with it. And Yuckbucket got all pissy. He kicked me. When i jumped back on I said something like: "Why admin kick?" "Your name change it." "Okay it's changed, (to Ax) but do you find it offensive?" "I'm not going to argue about it change it now." "K, it's already changed." Really wanted to see what would happen after that. Nothing. No one on the map recognized it but him. It wasn't racist, it wasn't offensive. If I had come on as UniBomber, Helter Skelter, Oswald, Zodiac Killer, T. McVey or Osama, none of those names would have raised an eyebrow. What I find funny as hell is Yuck got his panties in a wad over an obscure reference to shooter in a shooter game, where the object is to kill the other players. LOL. Anyway, I've tried a few other servers and no one seems to be bothered by it. Ironic ain't it? (And I really didn't read any of your posts except for the one immediately above.) You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. " WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore." GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD" llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!" Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"
